Topic: Lumkani, an internet of fire detection system for informal settlements
Lumkani is a massive IoT project aimed at reducing loss of life, injury, suffering and loss of property caused by fires in informal settlements. 11% of South Africans live in shacks and shack fires are a top-ten cause of child deaths in the age range between 1 and 9 years old. Lumkani is building a massive network of networks of fire detectors in order to alleviate this problem. This talk will expose the technology and challenges of building such a system.
